Those were the words of Kimberly Hubert’s mother one day when she found her daughter on the soccer field on the verge of tears. Her parents always pushed her to be tough, so this was nothing new. “You know what?” she thought. “You’re right.”
Kimberly Hubert is a division 1 soccer player whose story began in El Paso, and my latest guest on the Get Back with Dombek podcast. Self-described as “stubborn,” she made a point to play with the boys because she wanted to be better than the girls. Adversity followed her from a young age, as she moved from program to program and struggled to find a fit. The excuses were always the same: “You just don’t fit.” “We don’t have the room.” “We actually aren’t looking for new players right now.”
But Kimberly was relentless, and her stubbornness paid off. After a chance opportunity with a division 3 coach got her onto a college team, she worked her tail off until she ultimately found her way onto the field of a division 1 program. Kimberly thrived, making an immediate impact to turn a struggling club around.
On the verge of a breakout senior year, she suffered a devastating knee injury while playing in El Paso, which led her back to Virginia and ultimately to AID Performance. Listen to Kimberly’s story of resilience, overcoming, and redemption, which took her from the fields of El Paso all the way to the prestige of division 1 athletics.
